Darling River Run

About 730 km of unsealed river roads following the Darling (Baaka) from Bourke through Louth, Tilpa, Wilcannia and Menindee to Wentworth, with riverbank camps under the red gums. It is easy driving in the dry, but the black-soil roads close as soon as it rains and towing is banned on roads marked light traffic only.

What the trip asks of your 4WD

In the order a fitter would raise them, each with the reason. Up to three parts that fit for each, the first already chosen; swap any of them, or mark one you don't need.

Build it for your 4WD

Your rego or your model, and every part below is one that fits it. Until then you see the gear that fits any 4WD; the parts made for one vehicle wait for yours.

We look up the make, model, series and engine from the plate. We keep the plate and the vehicle details, never the owner’s, for 90 days, so you aren’t asked twice.

Make & model

  1. 1 · Suspension & GVM

Hundreds of kilometres of corrugations are hard on shocks, especially when towing or fully loaded.

    • 2 · Bull bars

Goats, kangaroos and emus are on the river roads at all hours.

    • 3 · Lighting & 12V

Riverbank camps have no power, so a dual battery keeps the fridge running.

    • 4 · Storage & racks

Days between towns mean carrying water, food and camp gear on a secure, dust-sealed load.

    • 5 · Tow & rear bars

Many run the river with a camper in tow and carry a second spare on a rear wheel carrier.

    • 6 · Tuning & remaps

With a camper in tow for 730 km of dirt, a towing tune keeps the engine pulling in its torque instead of hunting gears.

Each of these is made for one vehicle, so the parts show once we know yours.

The trip asks for these; the rest of the rig is yours to choose. Build the whole rig for this trip.
