Corner Country: Sturt National Park and Cameron Corner

Gibber plains, mesas and red dunes around Tibooburra, with the Gorge Loop and Middle Road through Sturt National Park and the Dog Fence out to the Cameron Corner Store, where three states meet. Rain closes the roads for days, and parts of Middle Road and the Jump Up Loop have been closed since May 2026.

Permits NPWS vehicle entry fee paid at coin-only machines in Sturt National Park; campgrounds such as Dead Horse Gully and Fort Grey booked through NPWS; no permit for Cameron Corner.

Before you go Check NPWS alerts and the Unincorporated Far West road conditions line (08 8082 6660) before you go. Ring ahead to confirm fuel at Packsaddle; without it, Broken Hill to Tibooburra is about 335 km.

What the trip asks of your 4WD

In the order a fitter would raise them, each with the reason. Up to three parts that fit for each, the first already chosen; swap any of them, or mark one you don't need.

Build it for your 4WD

Your rego or your model, and every part below is one that fits it. Until then you see the gear that fits any 4WD; the parts made for one vehicle wait for yours.

We look up the make, model, series and engine from the plate. We keep the plate and the vehicle details, never the owner’s, for 90 days, so you aren’t asked twice.

Make & model

  1. 1 · Suspension & GVM

Hours of gibber and corrugations with a full load of fuel and water are the main test of a vehicle out here.

  2. 2 · Storage & racks

Extra water, fuel and spares need to be packed tight for the corrugations.

    • 3 · Tow & rear bars

Sharp gibber shreds tyres, so a rear wheel carrier for a second spare is standard kit.

    • 4 · Bull bars

Kangaroos, emus, goats and stock wander the unfenced roads, especially at dawn and dusk.

    • 5 · Lighting & 12V

A dual battery keeps the fridge cold at remote camps in heat that can pass 40 degrees.

    • 6 · Air intake

Bulldust and trailing dust clouds are constant, and a raised snorkel intake breathes cleaner air.

Each of these is made for one vehicle, so the parts show once we know yours.

The trip asks for these; the rest of the rig is yours to choose. Build the whole rig for this trip.
