Central Plateau: Lake Augusta and Nineteen Lagoons
High-country tracks across the Central Plateau from Liawenee past Lake Augusta to the Nineteen Lagoons, over rocky ground and lake-bed sections that high-clearance 4WDs can pass in summer when lake levels are low. The boom gate beyond Thousand Lakes Lodge is closed from mid-May to October.

Before you go Book the Spirit of Tasmania from Geelong, and ask Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania whether the tracks need a permit or key. The Pillans Lake track is closed until 1 Nov 2026.
What the trip asks of your 4WD
In the order a fitter would raise them, each with the reason. Up to three parts that fit for each, the first already chosen; swap any of them, or mark one you don't need.
Build it for your 4WD
Your rego or your model, and every part below is one that fits it. Until then you see the gear that fits any 4WD; the parts made for one vehicle wait for yours.
1 · Suspension & GVM
Rangers say high clearance is needed beyond Lake Augusta, where tracks cross rocky ground and old lake beds.

Soft lake-bed mud after rain can trap a vehicle far from help.
3 · Rock sliders
Dolerite rock on the plateau tracks is hard on sills and underbody.
4 · Air intake
Tracks cross lake beds and creeks that fill when water levels rise.
5 · Lighting & 12V
Cold nights and a campfire ban make a dual battery for the fridge and lights worth having.
Each of these is made for one vehicle, so the parts show once we know yours.
The trip asks for these; the rest of the rig is yours to choose. Build the whole rig for this trip.
